hello everyone,
i'm new in the "newtbussines" and i got a pair of cynops orientalis 2 weeks ago. but i have a problem now. they won't eat. i don't know why i tried everyting. they both have eaten one time in 2 weeks and they refuse to eat again. what should i do now, and why won't they eat?
thanks

what are you feeding them?

also check them for sores and other signs of being sick. If they have something wrong (and pet shop cynops more often than not do) they probally will not eat.

Questions about newts that won't eat belong in the Newt and Salamander Help section:

But you may first want to take a look at the caresheet for this species:

i'm sorry, i thought this was the right place to put this message in. with everything i mean all kinds of food.
i can't see wounds or something like that, and i didn't buy them from a pet shop but from a man who breeds them(i don't know the english word).
i got some new food today, i hope they will eat it.
thanks all.

can i just dig them up in the garden? aren't there harmful bacteria or something in them if i just dig them up?

i've had no problems myself, and if you think about it its only what they would have in the wild. if you are worried then you could put some in a plantpot and grow them on. but there shouldn't be any problem

Worms from the garden are good, as long as the soil is not treated with pesticides. What foods have you tried? And how large/small are the newts?

the newts are about 4 cm now. i've tried newt pellets and they didn't like that but i expected that becouse it's not meat. i also tried little shrimp, frozen bloodworms, daphnia, pieces of chopped beef and a bag with a mix of small living things where i don't now the name from.
i'm going to dig up somewhere but i don't think my garden is a good place cause oure chickens got coccidiosis there

A friend or family members garden would be just as good. Like Jen said just make sure where you dig hasn't been treated with any pesticides.

I would try frozen bloodworms with a tweezer or live blackworms...If its that small You can try whiteworms also... Good Luck with them...

I never hear it mentioned, and I know they're not that healthy, but for the first few weeks I had Lenny, he wouldn't eat anything but freeze dried bloodworms in the water. Now he's a big fan of chopped earthworms, crushed mealworms and strangely enough, frog pellets. Doesn't like crickets at all though. He also occasionally tries to eat pill bugs, but spits them out when they roll up into balls. Last night he dragged a snail up onto land and I'm sure would have tried to eat it if I hadn't put it back in the water.

Oh wow. This makes me want to put snails in my newts tank (the fish tank is overrun with them) to see if the little guy catches one! So cute.
