what size of tank do i need to start breeding axies??

An axie if it breeds will breed regardless of size of tank. But for comforts sake for your breeding pair (even if you decide not to breed) it would be better to have a larger tank 2.5-3ft long.
Do you really intend breeding and do you intend raising all the eggs/larvae? It takes time and hard work. And when they grow to a suitable size (3months or so on) you may have trouble trying to sell them all.

The axie in your avatar photo is quite skinny, Phillip. They need to be plump in order to breed. That's more important than tank size.
