Okay so if you guys look in the ''off-topic'' area you'll see I posted a thread about seeing a newt in a tank with oscars and pike fish and jack dempsy's.I also said it was a japanese newt and how it ate minnows and thats the only thing it had to eat. Also I said that I was trying to find it a home to my friend. So today I got it for my friend and as I took a closer look it looks like some type of warty newt! He said he got it for 14.00$ or so at petland discounts(a chain-petstore) So we narrowed it down to 3 newts...Paramesotriton chinensis ,Paramesotriton fuzhongensis ,or Paramesotriton hongkongensis .Also I would put a picture up that I took through my cell phone but I have no idea how to post up a picture...can anyone help me? Also the newt looks greenish when you take a picture of it with a flash.

Ok maybr when I get a chance I will but can you guys also answer which one is it most likely to be? And do all of them require the same care?

It's going to be Paramesotriton chinensis. All of the other warty species are rarely imported.

I agree with Justin. While I have found labiatus, chinensis, hongkongensis, guanxiensis, deloustali, fuzhongensis, and caudopunctatus in pet stores, over the last few years only P.chinensis has been common, with smaller numbers of P.hongkongensis. Plus, the greenish color you describe is characteristic of labiatus and chinensis. Lastly, the bulk newt trade APPEARS to be supplied via the tropical fish trade, possibly by way of Shanghai. All three common pet trade newts occur near Shanghai, and it makes most sense that only the most conveniently located species will end up in the "cheap bulk" part of the trade. P.labiatus doesn't occur near Shanghai, but P.chinensis does.
