I have gravel in the bottom of my tank and I want to change it. What is the best thing to use? I am thinking of getting either rocks bigger than its head or sand (if I got sand what sand would I need to use and where could I get it from?) I don't want to leave the tank bare because then the filter on the bottom would not work.

Sand is better than large rocks because its easier to clean. I'm not sure what type to buy, I heard that you can use play sand but you'll have to let other people post.

Does anybody know what is best for the bottom of the tank?

I just said SAND or nothing! Are you ignoring me or are you just not interested in what I have to say, I've noticed that you been asking the same questions over and over in your posts and completely ignor some comments!

i agree with ryan sand is the best option and the sooner the better looking at your other posts your axies belly seems quite distended im not sure if this is from gravel or not but from my experience gravel is not good !!

also, you should get another filter rather than the under gravel one, as waste/detritus eventually falls through the plate at the bottom and can cause your tankwater levels (ammonia and/or nitrite) which can be unsafe for your axies.

With sand you need to remove the filter as well as gravel. I think bare bottom is just as good/easier to clean and for feeding (am using it for axie babies and so tempting to do so for some of our adult tanks).

I have another filter that is on top of the gravel as well as the one on the bottom.

So do you have an extra internal that just sits on the side of the tank? Are you able to post a picture if that's not what you mean?

Ok I will post a picture a soon as possible of the filter.

Here is a picture of one of the filters in the tank. I will try to get a better picture of this filter and get a picture of the other one.
