Hi

i have noticed that one of the gills on my tiger salamander larvae is now spit and a little smaller. What does this mean? Is it a sign of morphing? If it is how long do i have?

I have included the pictures below. Its the middle gill on the right side.

Im starting to think no one knows what this means.
Not sure if any of you have seen this before. I can't find any info on it anywhere.:(:(

Well, I'm not an expert, but that doesn't look like anything to worry about, maybe it's an odd genetic quirk or he injured that gill and it regrew that way, aquatic sals tend to have weird regenerative properties, like growing 2 toes when 1 is lost or 3 legs when 1 leg is lost, I wouldn't worry if I was you, you'll notice when he starts to morph because his gills will shrink and his legs will become thicker.

Good luck with the little guy.

That's nothing to worry about. Your tiger is no where near ready to morph judging from the head, gills, and caudal fin.

Thank you guys! I was just worried about my baby:D

Perfectly normal.

My axolotl has a forked gill branch like that. I think its cute!!
