What colour morph should I breed harley with.

I'm not sure when I will be doing it yet. I will have to buy my new tank first so I can quarantine but what colour morph would be best to breed harley with. I want to get a good variety of babies but don't know if I should go with golden or another unusual one.

Have you figured out the genetics from the last bacth yet? Until you know his genetics you don't know what colour female will produce what babies.

I don't really understand genetics I'm pretty sure I have a mix of dirty leucys and wild types. Either that or they are all wild types. I'm not sure If I have a chimera I think I could have one .

We can help you with genetics. Tell us mom and dad and get some clear pics of the colors of the larvae. We already know dad is the chimera, there is a slight possibility that he could throw two different sets of DNA to the babies. I'd have to read more on axolotl spermatogenesis to know if that's possible all in the same clutch or not.

Okay. Harleys parents were a dirty leucy ( mum) and a dark wild type with gold iradophores ( dad ). The mum of the babies was a leucistic with slight freckles I don't know her parents. I think they are wild types after a second look I think it was the light that made one of the babies look a bit lighter.

The larvae look like freckled Leucistics to me. It will become more obvious as they grow. So that would mean dad is acting as a leucistic genetically in this bunch, if they all look like that. If he contributed from the wildtype side, you would see both wilds and Leucistics.

Oh right. Thank you. I'm not getting my new one until after I have got my new tank as that is when I will have harleys old tank and can use that for quarantine. What colour do you think I should breed harley with? I also have to obviously cycle his new tank first. Is there any way I can do the cycle quick without putting fish in. I have red you can buy bacteria in a bottle , Is that any good?

I'm not sure about bacteria in a bottle, what I would do is get some bloodworms to begin the cycle
