It's only a month into Summer and already Alex's tank has been getting to 23+ celsius.

I'm saving up for a chiller, but am worried about buying one and it turns out not to do the job right.

His tank is 100 litres and I have a cannister filter.

I've found some online for the $300-$400 range, which is a lot better than the $900-$1000 the aquarium store quoted me, but do the cheaper ones work just as well?

Mandy, I have a quote of 700 dollars for a 3 foot tank , the model is a Teco tr 5 . There is an online store in Australia that offers a cheaper price, But my email bounced when I wrote to them. So I don't feel confident buy from them online.

there is a model called aqua one that reads as if it only reduces the temp by 3-5 degrees whereas I have been told that the Teco model will reduce the temperature by about 12 degrees C.

The shop I contacted that seemed to know what they were talking about is based on Anzac Highway in Adelaide.

I've got a aqua one chiller similar to what you describe.

was the model you where looking at the "arctic" series? mine is a "aqua reef chiller" (as implied, for saltwater marine tanks but probably no different) rated to 600L so maybe a different model. I can upload a picture of it if you like. I'm not sure about the chilling capacity but I could find probably find out.

it set me back about $700 from memory and it does a good job during the hot perth days.

I was worried about how much power it would use, but the last power bill was $140 so not that much more than I expected.

i took the risk with a Haliea chiller, which i assume is the cheaper brand you found.

I say risk, because yes, you usually get what you pay for.

It had a 2 year warranty, so i figured worth a small risk and if it lasts 2 years or more i havent done too bad.

couple of years later it is still going well.
