What are they?

Hi,

got only this ppor pictures of Triturus whom species I don't know - I've been told they could be a special one but still I'm not sure. So I will just tell you that they are from Greece (but still are CB from a breeder in Germany).

Can you help me please?

They look suspiciously like Triturus carnifex. The yellow strip looks like the stripe of carnifex females and juveniles. Then again I wonder if they are Triturus cristatus

Though I doubt it. I am no authority on Triturus.
My best guess, if you say they are from Greece, this could be Triturus carnifex macedonicus which is found in the Balkan regions.
Comments anyone?

Kamil forgot to tell us, that the breeder of this spezies offered these Triturus as Triturus karelini.

no I did not. I wanted to give as less information as possible to get a "objective" comment. But yes, they were offered as karelinii. My fault, but this should be the beginning of large Triturus... And with me beeing unable to differ between dobrogicus, carnifex, cristatus and karelinii...

So, still on macedonicus - eh?

Well, that was something I was not expecting. But I guess every once in a while some people need to go "fishing"for definate answers as one way to look for the exact species name. So they are T. karelini?

One way to be sure is when they are slightly more mature. Do you know the age of your newts and their measurements?

Hi,

they could be T. c. macedonicus or T. k. arntzeni (or so) - both species are from Greece.
They are CB 05 and 7 - 8cm long.

The throat colouration looks like carnifex. The throats of karelinii are usually yellow with black spotting, same as the belly.

The stripe also looks like carnifex- young karelinii don't usually have a stripe. When they do, it is not as yellow as in carnifex.

So my guess would be carnifex. Do you have any information on the exact location in Greece that they come from?

are similar to my karelinii... as i seen i thought karelinii...

Hum... looking from above they are very very very similar to my triturus cristatus when they were young...buts the belly is very important in the identification, and the belly of your is a little bit diferent than the belly of mines... the belly of my triturus is more spotted...
 
You need a locality, Greece is way to big just to see what it is exactly. But if they are adult you will probably tell for sure.
