Hey.Last year in november my goldin albino axolotl laid some eggs. I kept 40 and they all hatched but only 3 survived. The father was white with black speckles and was just wondering if anyone can tell me what these axies are? Also one is alot bigger than the other two, which you can see, and i was just wondering if this is normal and if the other two are in danger of being eaten? thanks :)

I'm not sure what color they are, but they all seem a bit small for their age. There could be enough of a size difference for the smaller ones to be in danger of being eaten. What do you feed them?

Jen's right, those look like they're about 5-6cm long, if that. If that is a recent picture, then your 5 month old juvies are about as big as my 5 week old juvies! They're either wild-type or melanoids, hard to tell from the photo though.

I have been feeding them brineshrimp because we couldnt get hold of any daphnia, so i think that maybe thats why they are so small. About 3 weeks ago i started breaking up pellets extra small and feeding them that, thats when the biggest one started growing. the two smaller ones havnt grown at all in the three weeks but i have seen them eating.

Where you (1) using brine shrimp that you buy live at the pet shop, or (2) were you hatching brine shrimp eggs? The first is not a suitable food. The second should have gotten them to grow better than this. It looks like the larger one is better adapted to eating the pellets and that's why its growth has taken off.

In my opinion freshly hatched brineshrimp will not be suitable for Axolotls with this size and hind legs.
Have you tried any other food apart from brineshrimp and pellets? What about bloodworm, (chopped) earthworm, enchytraeen, woodlice, small pieces of fish and so on?
There is a lot of possibilities for feeding juvenile Axolotls.
And I would separate them, it looks like the smaller ones might easily fit into their bigger siblings mouth.

I hatched my own brineshrimp to feed them with and that was all i had because they refused to eat food that wasnt alive. I tried extremely micro forms of ox heart but cant get any form of blood worms. The bigger one eats the ox heart but the others spit it out. I have them seperated now :)

your little ones are wild type axolotls, very cute but you can tell who eats all the food as the small ones are tinny compared to the big one. try and seperate the small ones from the big one as they could get eaten and it will give them a chance to eat some food to make them grow.

ok, will try many different forms of food, and am thinking that maybe if i had been able to get some daphnia they would have grown better? Any way thanks a bunch every one! :)

Your larger larvae should be happy to eat chopped worms, if they take to them they will look like they are growing before your eyes !!. The little ones will probably need something like the daphnia, bloodworm etc for a little while longer. What sort of temperature is their water ? If its on the cooler side they tend to grow a little slower. Finally I noticed that when mine where at this sort of stage the wild type larvae where considerably larger than the leucistic and albino.

I have to agree with Earthworms, my juve axolotl has grown about 5cm in 2 months since he has been eating earthworms.

Ok thats quite interesting, i live in NZ and it is generally cooler although we have just had a boiling hot summer, at the moment the water temperature is about 18 degrees. Id say that it has been about 20-23 through the summer though. I will try some earthworms and see if they like that. I tried some ox heart but the spat it out.
