Ok. So I have a pair of T. kweichowensis in an 18 gallon woodland tank with a small water bowl. Recently,(in the past 2 days) my male newt has been on top of the female. If I move the male, and then come back in like 5 minutes, I see the male on top of the female. This isn't in the hide or anything just out in the open. What are they doing? I doubt it but is this breeding behaviour or something else?

P.S- The female is looking kinda big, might just be wishfull thinking but whatever.
Thanks
Alex

it does sound as though they might be thinking about it.

This site describes courtship in kweichoensis and shanjing - although your newts look untypical for either shanjing or kweichos and may be a different subspecies/species - who knows?

Either way, if there's a chance they'll breed, it would be important to provide a water part, probably not too deep and something they can easily climb in-and-out of...
