Yep, so what now? What is the best method to remove the eggs from the plants? What do I do with the eggs after that?

Obviously, I have to separate Toothless from the girls now. Should I go with a divider or just a new tank for him? There have been a few threads about axolotls getting through the dividers, and a determined male might be even worse.

Here are some pictures to be sure. Although since I'm watching it happen, I'm fairly certain. The third one is hard to see because she is in the very back of the tank and I couldn't get a good angle on her, but I did want a picture in the act. I took the last one by sticking my hand behind the tank, so the angle is a little weird.

Congrats! The eggs are easy enough to pick off with your fingers. They are more resistant than you think! Just don't pinch the actually egg. Pinch the jelly that is connecting the egg to the plant and pull it off. Or you could just take out he entire plant.

I divided mine a week ago after they produced a clutch, and there haven't been any issues (asides from sad looking axies). I used 1/4" transparent acrylic and cut small holes in it with a laser cutter for circulation. If you don't have access to a laster cutter, a drill works fine for making holes. And the acrylic is stron enough that not even the most determined of axies will break it down!

Definitely a good idea with the acrylic. I'm going to go out and buy something to separate them today, so I'll keep that in mind.

I finally found a post where someone said to remove with fingers, so I've been doing that. 96 out, plus she's laying more as I type this. Once she seems to be done, I'm going to remove the plants and make sure I have them all.

She's been gasping for air at the top a lot during this. Is that normal?

Sure. Laying eggs is strenuous!

That's what I figured. I feel bad for her. She's quite exhausted, and it shows.
