I just saw one of my Notos doing a weird little dance. I never saw this before. It did it on it's own while another was watching (I'm guessing the dancer was a male and the watcher was a female, but they're not totally in their mating garb yet, in my tank they usually develop those attributes in December and start mating in later December and January). Maybe they're just starting. Anyway, I grabbed my camera and made a few videos. They are rather grainy, but you can see what's going on.
It is my first movies with this new camera and I think I was too close, whatever.
They are on YouTube and here are links:

But do I remember reading that we can now upload videos to this site? I looked in the gallery and didn't see anything about it. Did I misread it, or can we? If so, can someone point me in the right direction?

Look at THIS one!!

I just added another. I just saw them doing this:
It reminded me of thumb wrestling! Anyway, I have never seen them act aggressively!
I may have to separate them! This is a new one on me. (Though I hardly profess to having seen it all).

Both look rather normal to me...the first dance i´ve seen it in other species, and the wrestling well....it´s normal to fight back if someone tries to put their cloaca on your face xD
Nice videos btw, always fun to watch newts n_n

Thanks, Rodrigo. Yes, I've seen the dance in videos of other species, I didn't know Notos did it.
Some people on this site have made great videos of this behavior in European newts. Can't think of names right now.
Then I thought he was laying his spermatophore, but maybe I just have spermatophores on the brain since Juraj's great picture.
Normally when I've seen a male amplex another male, they just sit there and endure it.

I made one of lisotriton vulgaris tail fanning and darting out in front of the female to block her path, but I think its a bit amature now, I'm going to make a new one in Feburary.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
