There's a weird film on top of my tank, I had no idea until I went to feed him today, and I have no idea how long it's been there because I've been letting my friends feed him with supervision. The water looks fine from the outside and his gills look healthy as ever, skin is normal, and he has a good apetite. Not sure what this could be.. I'm wondering if the fan over the water has something to do it with. Any ideas?

Sometimes it's just natural oils off your skin, even any creams or perfumes, it can be caused by lots of things. Don't worry about it to much just try to wash your hands and forearms before and after going in tank water, but a little is not a big deal.

Usually the film is just protein buildup on top of your tank. You can remove it by laying a piece of paper on top and pulling it back off.

As a note, you should never put your hands in the tank if you have creams or perfumes on. These can kill your salamanders. They are extremely sensitive to chemicals.

It went away after a day or two, I don't put anything on my hands before putting my hands in the tank, I don't own perfume, and occasionally use lotion. That's all though. Probably protein buildup, but it seems to be fine. Also, I cleaned out my canister filter and it was full of poop and probably wasn't sucking well. Not too excited about a new cycle though.
