Hi,

Long story short, I have recently acquired my axolotl back from an ex.
The poor little guy is suffering from stress due to the current of the filter. As well as that I have found the temperature to be WAY to high at 23C. I have an internal filter at the moment, which I find is boosting up the water temperature.

Im looking to get a waterfall filter, but unsure what brand is the best.
I have a 71L tank (18.7 us gallons).
Brands I have looked at are Aquaone, Aquatopia and the Marina.
So far my favourite is Marina Slim S20 Power Filter
because it has an adjustable flow control, but I am unsure if it will give off heat from the internal power filter.

I would be eternally grateful for help. I just want to get him back to a normal heath.

(I use API stress zyme + stress coat, and Prime water conditioner)

I have an aqua one hob filter which has an adjustable flow on my goldfish tank. I don't mind it all. It seems to work well. You may be able to baffle the flow of your current filter to break the current up a bit by placing an ornament or something in front of the filter outlet. You may find you will also need to do this with a hob filter. A few things you can do to lower temperature include a mesh lid, fans (clip on or desk fans you can tilt safely over the water), you can place wet towels over and around the tank to help cool as well. Chillers are the best cooling but are pricey so you may like to try those options first. It is probably also good to test your water parameters to make sure there are no other issues with the water that may be causing stress.

When you change filters, be sure to have both running together for a few weeks to allow the new filter to develop a colony of good bacteria to prevent crashing your cycle. Keep an eye on the parameters as well once you remove the old filter. You could also add some of the old media from the first filter to the new one to help maintain the tanks cycle.

On another note, you probably don't need to use both stress coat and prime as both dechlorinate. One or the other would be sufficient.

Thank you!
The filter I have now is an internal with a spray bar. I have aquarium cotton? over the bar now to soften the spray.

Its a new tank so the chemical cycle hasnt started yet. I have the API masterkit and ive studied the cycle so much so I know exactly whats happening.

Thank you for the info on the aquaone hob.

The big worry is mainly the temp. Ive put a fan over the tank and ive put a small frozen ice block in there. Not to big to massively drop the temp and make my axy worse.

I havent seen the axy in two years. So I have no idea what his treatment was like. Im just starting again unfortunately with him to make him healthy again.
