i brought some new plants i got a few weeks ago into Trogdor's tank (my axie) yesterday. then i noticed a snail on one of the plants. its still very tiny in a spiral shell..i was wondering if i should leave it alone, take it out..?

do water snails add any benefits to plants or aquariums?

if it's a malaysain trumpet snail I would advise that you leave it alone. Honestly either way they won't make that much of a difference but mts' will stir the sand which is a nice benefit in my opinion. If it's a pond snail the benefits will be about the same with any other snail, they'll eat any extra food, and eat miniscule amounts of algae. Depending on what kind of snail it is it might eat the plants, but I've never had a problem with snails eating live plants before. People say they're helpful tank cleaners, but I've raised snails to feed to puffers before, and they're also poop machines so I think they're cleaning abilities is a wash.

This reply will not be helpful in any way, I'm afraid, I just wanted to say:

TRRRROGDOOOOOOOR!!!!!!!!! The BURNINATOR!!!!! Check out all his Majesty!

Burninating all the Peasants!!!

Cool name for your axie, :D

Sorry, wish you well.

Rhys.

They aren't harmful, and usually beneficial. Just keep em...they do add to the bioload..but as long as you have good filtration and keep up with water changes..they will eat dead plant matter and help keep your tank sparkling.

Trogdor is a profoundly great name for an Axolotl.

Thanks folks for answering this question (and asking it in the first place) as having bought a new plant recently, I have similar special guests in my tank too. They are pretty funky so I'll leave them to it.

haha ha! thank you! i figured the name somewhat fit only as the waternator instead of the burnator ;p
and yes thank you for the advice on my lil snail..i used to have some fake plants in my tank and it just didnt "flow" or wave the way i wished they would.
i heard that real plants would help benefit the aquarium, and now i guess snails! ;p
Trogdor seems to taken a notice as well, before he would ignore the plants i had but now he floats through and on top of them ;)
