Water level/quality

I just got a new tank for my taricha. I've been reading that they like deep water but he's always lived in really shallow water. I want a change with this tank and have deep water and plants. Is the new depth going to stress him out? Should I increase it gradually?
Also, I have horrible city water, and I let the water sit a few days before adding it to the tank, is there any kind of chemical I can add, to get rid of the chlorine?

Hi Carly,

I would think he would be quite happy with the deeper water, especially since you have plants in the tank. You should have a land area should he decide to be a landlubber once in awhile.

Regarding your water, you should treat it with a chlorine, or chlorine/chloramine remover. There are several products out there - I use AQUASAFE. I also keep three treated 1 gal containers available at all times. You will then always have "safe" water for adds, or changes.
