I will eventually be moving my 2 marbled newt efts into a bioactive paludarium in a 55 gallon tank, I have a somewhat small water area on one end of the enclosure, and my biggest concern is the depth of the water, because I've heard that they can drown if the water is too high, so I'd like to know what depth I should have the water at to keep it safe for them until they reach maturity, at that point the entire setup will be changed, but right now the water level is about 1¼inch and 1½ inches deep in places where the substrate is a little thinner, they won't be going into the tank until the water has cycled and been tested a bit, but I just want to be prepared for when they are moved

As long as there are aquatic plants, sticks, or other structure for them to use for resting or climbing, your water depth is fine.

Awesome, they've got plenty of those, there's driftwood, a couple floating peices of cork, and several aquatic plants they should be able to use
