I have a 20 gallon long tank set up for one axolotl. currrently using fluval c3 on low current. i put some fake plants right under the output to block some of it but there is still some current in the water, my question is how much current is too much? most of the current looks like its on the surface but im not sure if it will stress out an axolotl alot?

I use a spraybar with my filter. It's pointed across the surface to help cool the tank down and it makes some current, but my axies don't mind it. Axies don't spend much time near the surface anyway. Mine sometimes swim up to the spraybar to take a look and then just return to the bottom once they've had enough of the current. So as long as the current isn't strong at the bottom and they can get away from it, it's fine.

You'll have to ask you axie that! Each axie is different, but generally as long as it doesn't make a small fake plant move it should be fine. But you need to find a reasonable balance between enough current to effectively filter your tank, and not enough to stress your axie.

Generally a spray bar aimed at the tank side or over an ornament is fine.

i dont think im able to add a spray bar because my filter is a hang on the side one with a waterfall like output but i will try to position some of my ornaments better so maybe it will reduce the current more, thank u guys!

just another question on spray bar please:
- would you put it in above or below water level? and would it always be places horizontally or can be attached vertically? ta:)

You can put it however you want it. I like to put it horizontally just below water level. If it's above then it'll make a noise when the water from the spraybar hits the water surface.
