Based in China
The Zoological Society of London are looking for an experienced herpetologist who would like to volunteer on our Chinese giant salamander (Andrias davidianus) conservation project in central and southern China for 3 to 6 months. Over recent years, this iconic species has declined due to over hunting and habitat degradation.
You will assist our Chinese partners in conducting intensive field surveys throughout the region and document the presence and absence of the Chinese giant salamander. You will also assist with carrying out basic sampling for disease screening and genetic testing. You will be required to train new partners in field survey techniques.
Training will be provided as necessary, but you must already have a strong interest in, and knowledge of, amphibian survey techniques. Experience of working overseas, especially in developing countries, would be beneficial. Applicants must be proactive, resourceful, physically fit and able to swim. Your food and living expenses will be covered along with travel and medical insurance.
Short-listed applicants will be interviewed at our Head office in London and will depart for China in spring / summer 2014.
To apply, please send a covering letter stating your experience, interest, and availability, plus a copy of your CV, to ben.tapley@zsl.org
Closing date for applications: Tuesday 1 October 2013
