"Dagger" seems to like it but I still need to build him a few hides. Trying to go natural themed so I don't want to use a pot or pvc pipe. And I don't want to shell out big bucks to waste on something that I don't even like that much. Any suggestions about what to get for hides would be appreciated! I really want a cave-like structure so I might just have to buy one off ebay or something. All the ones at pet stores suck. Also going to get more plants. I want some moss to cover the floor! I think he'd really enjoy that. Eventually I'd like to make the moss backdrop but I don't have time right now.

Anyway thanks for looking. Let me know what you think and what I can improve on.

That is looking really nice!!
Firstly with a few more plants the Bridge? structure in there looks like a lovely hide to me.
I will say 1 negative though :( sorry, some of the pebbles are going to be a problem when he gets bigger though, anything that is the size of an axies head or smaller are capable of being swallowed so I would keep a close eye.
Other than that its all looking good and Im sure your axie will be very happy.

Haha yes it's 4 ft x 1 ft x 1 ft. I would have preferred if it would have had more floor space but
it will due for now. Was thinking of getting another axolotl but I don't know where I can find a gold
one. The search is on! My next project is getting a terrestrial newt though. I like the eastern newt and
the blue spotted sal. but it all depends on what I can get in my local pet shops.

I have a perfect tank for one measuring 36in x 18in wide x 12 in tall. I wish the pet stores around here carried more! I'm having the hardest time finding any newts or salamanders. I talked to one store and they can order newts in for me so I'm waiting til tomorrow to see what they have in stock :-D

And I was thinking the same thing the other day frances, Most of the rocks are too large to ever fit in
his mouth but there were a few that were smaller that I was concerned about in the future. Thanks
for the lookout.

It looks like there is a lot of current in the water, axolotls don´t like that.
I would remove the airpump, that´s good for nothing, it´s only causing more current and stress to the axolotl.
I would add more plants and for hides I used flat stones, on my site you can see how I did that. I bought them in a pondstore, much cheaper then in a petstore.
Sand is a very good choise to put on the bottom.
The small stones could be swallowed, maybe you can stack them all at one side of the tank and then you can use the other side of your tank for feeding your axolotl.

(If there are any spelling faults please tell me, I want to improve my english typing)

Thanks for the tips! And I don't know about the bubbles. He really enjoys playing in them for some reason! I always catch him swimming right where the bubbles start and then he lets the bubbles carry him up and he does it over and over lol. I might get rid of it though cause it just doesn't add that much to the tank. As for the current it may look like a lot but there really is minimal current in the tank.
I'm using a fluval 205 and it seems to be working really well. I'm pleased with it anyway and
"dagger" seems to like it too :] He likes to swim in front of the output and chomp at it lol.

And I love the way you built your hides! I'll have to do that too :)
Your tank looks really pretty. Lots of green everywhere. What wattage of bulb are you using
to grow your plants also? They look very healthy.
What are some of the plants you are using?

as for your english, the word "choise" should be spelled "choice"
thanks for the tips and ideas! More are welcome!

I don´t use a lot of light, only 1 TL. Ik en mijn dieren |

The plants in my tank:
Potamogeton lucens
Ceratophyllum demersum
Lemna minor
Lemna trisulca
Egeria densa
Pistia stratiotes
Vesicularia dubyana

I've read many threads about air stones, and most people say their axies love the bubbles! They can be useful in helping with oxygen flow. If you axolotl is happy and it is not doing any harm, I'd leave it. :)

Ha yeah I think he likes it so I'll just leave it in there. I wanted to get black sand but it's so expensive! so won't be doing that anytime soon. Can't wait to build him some new hides w/ flat rocks like sander b did in his link. I think it'll really give the tank a natural look too. I'll upload a picture on this thread when I do it.
