I have 4 Tiger Salamanders and I just noticed this morning that one of them looks sick. Thin, not moving much, dull skin, won't eat. It happened very suddenly and looks similar to how my Yellow Spotted looked before he died, there is also a popping sound when she breathes. My 3 other Tigers are all fine they all just ate a cockroach and are moving around the tank.

I have put her in a separate tank with crickets and she is just sitting in the corner with her face up against the glass.

I'm really worried, I don't want to lose another one of my babies.

This sounds like it may be a respiratory infection, if so it will need vetinary treatment as soon as possible.

I just took her out to observe her more closely and her body is sticky. I wet her and gently rubbed her with a paper towel and it was almost like she is shedding and can't, her skin was coming off but it's very, very sticky.

I was too late, I lost my Otis. I am heartbroken :(

I am very sorry that you lost one of your tiger salamanders. I have three and I am very attached to mine. I have a question for Julia, though. What might cause a salamander to get a respiratory infection? Can it be prevented? Thanks.

Thanks

I would like to know what might have caused this too, I can't get any answers :(
My other 3 guys are fine right now. Their tank temp is 65.5 degrees, they are on coconut fiber substrate with enough for them to burrow. They have hiding places and a water dish to soak. They eat crickets, roaches and occasional night crawlers.

I don't know what went wrong. I am cleaning the tank today and giving them new substrate, I don't want this to happen to my other guys as well. It happened so fast :(

Sorry for your loss,
I would try feeding them mainly on nightcrawlers with an occasional cricket or roach. If the roaches are large, the shell could potentially present problems. I prefer using soil from my property but not everyone has access to good quality soil and plenty of people use coconut fiber. I maintian a dozen or so tigers, and have about one unexplained death a year.
Best wishes,
Richard

Thanks Richard
I am going to start feeding them mostly night crawlers, they don't get roaches too often. They all eat out of my hand so I have no problem feeding them.
