I had a great healthy group of 5 fems and 5 males all breeding and happy...I bought 2 pr of cristatus from holland and he sent 2 alpestris extra (1 male and 1 female) upon delivery the alpestris looked skinny and half-hearted, so i added them to my collection as i thought they would feed up and fill out...A week later the male died with his back legs paralysed and draping behind him, the female followed 3 days later...My group started getting similar symptoms, including white/blind eyes???? skinny disposition??? (always been big eaters) black/fungal symptoms around lower jaw/mouth, very sad, dont know what to do?????have only 2 males and 2 females left and they dont look great...any ideas/reasons/cures/disease info... As i have marmoratus, pygmy marms, cristatus, carnifex, palmates etc and dont want this to spread..

And that is why quarantine is ALWAYS a must.
It could be something viral, or perhaps a bacteria or fungus. Separate all other amphibians from the ill ones and make sure you don´t share any equipment among the two groups.

Hello,

In your circumstances particularly, I'd have to strongly recommend consulting a vet, since many other animals are potentially at risk. There are all sorts of potential infections that could have come in here (although it is always worth reviewing your setup etc). Diagnostics might be limited in the live animals (but some tests are always possible), but treatments could be tried, and/or if it comes to that a post-mortem examination has the best chance of getting a diagnosis.

In the meantime obviously institute strong isolation measures for the affected tank.

Hope you can get them sorted.

Bruce.
