Very ill newt. liver problems

my friend has 2 firebelly newts. last week she noticed one of them was ill so she called the vet out and he said it was liver damage and she would be dead within 24 hours. a week on and shes still alive but shes on her back. can someone help me to help my friend please?

If it's liver damage, then I'm guessing that the newt is bloated??? The vet's estimate for how long it would live is obviously wrong, but it will probably die at this advanced stage. Sorry.
