Hey all, I’m going on a trip in April just the 3rd-7th (just found out yesterday). I was planning to do a water change and feed my adults right before then feed them the day I get back. Ik they’ll be fine for the few days im gone.
What im worried about is my hatchlings, they started hatching yesterday. Ik they’ll be 2 months old by then, but will they be ok for that amount of time? I have a few people who might be willing to watch them for a few days if needed! What do you think is the best course of action here?

Hi,
For adult ribbed newts, no problem for 5 days without being fed.
For the larvae, try to have very well fed larvae so that they are as large as possible when you go on your 5 days trip.
At this stage, their liver should be well developped and they'll be able to wait successfully.
Of course, if you can get them in a cold place with light and plants, it would be better.
In april, you'll be able to find daphnias. Daphnias are fresh water live food, so you can give the amount for 3 days before leaving. They wont pollute the water since they wont die if uneaten.

I have a daphnia culture running in a spare tank!
