A question about temperature?. I live in the South West Region of Western Australia. Where we have a very fine but fluctuating climate. A crisp Winter minimum of some 2°C with a Summer maximum of near 30°C. The seasonal change does not typically affect my Axolotl aquarium too drastically; we're currently in the end of Winter with some frozen mornings and the Aquarium has remained between 13°C and 14°C. Though I feel this is still too cold of a temperature for my axolotls to be comfortable the only heaters I have and can source have a Minimum setting of 20°C. I have tried using a smaller 55w heater in the 200L Tank to little benefit, the water still reaching 20°C without effort. The question I pose is an opinion on whether they would be more comfortable at 14°C or 20°C?. Particularly during breeding. And also as to a Temperature best chosen to rear the young?. As they are just beginning to spawn. Thank you. Any advice will be well received.

I have not had much to do with breeding but would not recommend placing a heater in the aquarium. Heaters are prone to malfunctioning and are more likely to cause more harm than good. 14C is not anything to worry about. You may find they eat a bit less during winter at that temp but it is certainly not worth risking a heater.

Like Skudo said, 14° is OK. If they appear to be eating a little less it's because their metabolism is slower in cold temperatures, I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you for the advice. I will be leaving the Tanks without heating. Hoping they do not fall any lower in temperature. Ta.
