I seem to be having the worst luck with my axolotls ): my big guy’s 20 gallon tank has had some algae. I’ve been using low doses of algae remover to get rid of it. I’d poked a hole in the top to keep the dose accurate since it’s only 12 drops for the 20 gallon. Today I went to put some in and the top came off and enough for a 120 gallon tank went in. Luckily it wasn’t by the filter. I immediately did a 40% water change. Should I take him out? If I do take him out how long til I can put him back in? I already have one baby tubbed ): I’m so worried.

Edit: I’d put enough for a 60 gallon tank not 120

Do you know what the ingredients are?

You can do a 76% water change to lower the dose to safe level but some algae removers are not axo safe depending on ingredients

algae is a result of food and light - what are your parameters ?

Better to not use products as axos are super sensitive

I don’t have light on the tank and he eats all the food ): I don’t know why it’s been coming back. I’ll have to check the parameters tomorrow. Are any of those ingredients harmful?

I took him out of the tank to be safe. I’m thinking I’ll leave him in those other tank for a few days to be safe. The bottle says treatment can be repeated if needed after 3 days. I assume that means after 3 days the chemicals are gone? Would it be safe to put him back in in 3 days?

^not that I will be using the product ever again but just to see if it would be safe to put him back

Unless you are using carbon in your filter it will still be in the tank.

I'd do a massive water change before readding him

I do have carbon in the filter! I did about a 60% in total change yesterday. I’m gonna do a 20 tomorrow and a 30 two days later and check the parameters to make sure the cycle isn’t crashed. Does carbon stop working? I’ve had it in this filter for a few months. Should I add more in the filter?
