Marmortus....Judging from the difference in color and the broken stripe, looks like a boy and 2 girls in this pic

The cristatus mature fast. Note this male with a white stripe in it's tail and even a small crest.

And finally, the verrucosus are still larvae, but they're blackworm pigs and growing fast.

Hi david

very nice pics

Is it the case that male cristatus have that orange lower half to the tail just like a female until they are sexually mature?

cheers

I'm not sure that the orange lower half of the tail is gender related. It's more prevelant on some of them then others, but some I think are possibly females have less orange. Could be though. It is kind of early to insure complete accuracy on determining gender.

Nice series of photos Dave, they've turned out well, keep up the good work!

Thanks Mark. I hope I get some luck with my next couple of breeding projects.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
