i just bought this at my local pet shop-he has had them there for about 3 days-of the 2 he got 1 is definately an alpine newt, the other is the one in question-i know he orders from strictly reptiles (the condition of the animals also suggests this, and their low price of 6.99 supports this theory).
they were sold as 'crested newts'..so i have a pic here of the one in question-i think the marking near the eye may help identify it. superfically it looks like a smooth newt female-yet there are no belly spots and the few spots it does have are along the sides, it also seems very dark for a smothie. the tail is short and the vent is dark, the belly is a brightish orange fading to tan just before the dark sides start up. the back is dark to look at-with no distinct pattern seen and there is no crest currently to help ID it....any ideas?
