I've had this salamander larva for about two weeks. I purchased him from the local feed store that sold me my Barred Tiger Salamander and my Melanoid Axolotl, but the description on his fishbowl only identified him as "waterdog," so I don't know what he's metamorphosing into, but he is doing it fast. His fins and gills are almost completely non-existent but he is reluctant to brave land or practice using his new lungs. He has also been refusing to eat the pellets of food I've been offering him, along with a few earthworms, for about a week. The day I got him he ate a whole goldfish tail-first so the loss of appetite is new as far as I can tell. I had previously housed him with my tiger salamander and they didn't seem to mind each other's company - no missing toes or anything - but I have just moved him to a separate enclosure in case he was becoming stressed by his old environment. I just looked over from my typing to see his head peeping above water, lungs in use, and he winked at me. This seems like an improvement but I'm really worried about his appetite above all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The bowl I'm keeping him in now is temporary and I intend on moving him into a 10-gallon tank when he becomes fully terrestrial. (This is my first post on this forum so I'm sorry if I haven't prepared it very well)

he looks fine!
i don't really know much about morphing, my first larvae is doing it right now, but i heard that some larvae stops eating while they are morphing.

I think the change in environment really did him well. He seems much happier. Here are some photo updates - he's improved so much in the past couple of hours. :] I can't wait for him to be ready for food.

He escaped his enclosure in the night! I couldn't have been asleep for more than three hours. What should I do?? :[

Place a couple of bowls of chemical free water on the floor and hopefully he will seek these for moisture. Keep searching for him.

the little turd was under my sister's bed in a plastic tube. I'm glad he found a safe haven from my cats before it was too late. I'm making him a house out of bricks and mortar as we speak >:[
