Unexpected Eggs

My axolotls Judy and Grimace have been busy little critters. The night before I left town last week I was surprised to find eggs all over the silk plants in my tank. I had no choice but to just leave them in there.

So now I am back in town and wondering what to do next. They were deposited on Tuesday the 14th. I am wondering if they are even developing, they have changed shape slightly but aren't the little half moon shape I would have expected to see at this point. The water is quite cool, about 61 degrees, maybe they are just going very slow? I could try to post a picture tonight. I guess at this late in the game I should just leave them and see what happens? Maybe try to save them as they hatch? Let nature take it's course? What now? Any advise is appreciated.

Hey, if your water is cool then they're just being slow Unless the eggs start to look "foggy", they are developing!

If you're wanting a few axolotl babies, you need to remove some eggs before they hatch! You axies will eat the eggs, and especially any wiggly axie larvae.

The amount is up to you! You could save them all, or just a few. I'd suggest removing at least 20. You never know what the mortality rate will be like.

Yay, eggs! Like above, they develope far slower in colder temperatures but will still develop. Jesus, your Golden is a BEAST!

Yes, Judy is a BEAST! He went through a massive growth spurt a while back, and I actually started a thread about his man parts being swollen a couple weeks ago. Pretty obvious what was going on now... haha

After further inspection I am a little worried about the eggs. They seem to have changed color a little, and the shape is kinda funky now. Also I was trying to carefully clean up the bottom after they ate some worms last night and the dirt kinda stuck to the eggs... so they look dirty now.

What do you guys think? Developing or duds?

Those look like every photo I've ever seen of a dud. I hope I'm wrong! Your axies are impressive.

This is her first batch, so I wouldn't be surprised.

To me they look like duds.

Developing eggs will look like a kidney bean and then elongate out into a "c" shape.

Dud eggs collapse like a punctured ball....wrinkly, lopsided, caving in.

I see one or two in the second photo that look ok! But the rest are definitely duds. Sorry

If so many are duds I think it could be possible that the ones that do survive will have a high mortality rate... generally the first batch of eggs an axie has have a low chance of survival. So it is up to you if you wish to attempt to raise the okay eggs or just ditch them all and save yourself the potential pain that comes with losing your larvae.
