So I am coming up on 5 weeks of fishless cycling my tank, getting a bit frustrated.

The ammonia is to the point that every 24 hours its back to 0 even when I dose it up to 2-3 ppm daily. However, the nitrites are still reading off the charts, as soon as I put in the 5 drops and shake the test up it instantly turns dark purple. It's been like this for almost 2 weeks.

The thing that doesn't make sense to me is that when I test the nitrates they keep going up it just read between 40-80 ppm.

Am I just going to wake up one day and the nitrites will go from 5+ ppm to 0 within 24 hours? or is there something I should be doing?

Thanks for any help

Yes, it's normal for the nitrites to just drop to nothing overnight. Keep at it!
