hi all,
i have two batches of babies and i just thought id let everyone know how they are going. well my first batch were born on the 25th to the 28th july so they are around two moths old. i got them from halszka who i havnt heard from in awile as eggs. i only had around thirty eggs hatch as i think the mum was really young and the car ride to my house probably didnt do them much good. a few days after they hatched about twenty of them died for no apparant reason while i was at school. i had fed them and their water was clean. i had 11 left and since then one died because it was really tiny and its legs were deformed, it was about 1cm and the rest of my babies were about 4cm, and its legs were all twisted and deformed so id say thats why it died. so now i have 10 that are doing really well, they are ssooo cute and i have 2 melanoids, 2 white with black eyes, 1 golden albino, 1 white albino 3 definate wildtypes and 1 who is the biggest who is a really weird colour and i have no idea what it is.lol.
now i also have about 400 newly hatched baby axies from my own pair. im sad to say that the mother got sick not long after she layed them and passed away a few days ago...
i suppose it was because she wasnt in good enough condition to lay eggs as i only got her from the pet shop a few days before she layed them and i didnt know she was going to lay them. also because of the excess waste put in the tank from the eggs there was .5 ammonia in her tank but i removed her straight away because i saw a bit of her slime coat coming off . she just went down hill from there.
anyway her babies are doing fine and i ive noticed there are a few really weird one in that batch. there are some of what would look like they are white with black eyes except they have a black stripe down their back, i thought maybe they were going to be piebald but i doubt it since they are so rare. i also have every other colour; albino, glden albino, melanoids, wildtype etc..
their mother was a really light brown wildtype and she had huge gills which were about 4cms long. their father in kind of uknown, i have three males in my tank and two are albinos and one is a wildtype, since the eggs were all white i think it is either my white albino or golden albino male, also the majority of the offspring are goldens and wildtypes so i suspect the father is my golden albino but im not 100% sure. im going to post pics soon but its hard to get good ones because my camera is pretty crappy.
