Twins

hi I was wondering just how rare twin axies are? Our axies, Frilly and Olive, layed eggs about a week ago. We noticed two tiny grey-brown spheres in one blob of jelly. Now those little spheres have become tiny moon shaped axies, and they are still both in there and look sort of connected by the tip of their tails and their noses or they might just seem like that. Any way, I was wondering, how rare are twin axolotls? What are the chances that they will survive? Has anyone ever seen twin axies? I guess thats hard to tell since many look very similar... thanks for reading this

I had a couple of sets in my first batch, they are 5 weeks old now, one set I know survived for sure, and they are really cute, because each has a bent tail, one bends left, and the other bends right. Lol

aw thats so adorable! hehe =) i was worried that maybe they were siamese twin lotls? Is that possible? lol can u imagine being joined by the tail? hehe wat a funny thought. Not good if they wanted to tell eachother secrets though! =)
Not L, J her twin

Hehe good idea, I hadn't thought of naming them. I like it, L and J it is lol

Our second batch has hatched, I only noticed one set of twins, but the eggs didn't develop. We now have about 300 babies!!

hehe u must be a proud... grandmother, is it? aw don't u feel old! lol just joking but still it seems so weird how humans live so much longer than our lotl friends...

What's the matter? Why oops? Lol at work this week so not on line as much. Yep, we are pretty rapt with them all, our last breeding attempt was a disaster, we lost our female, and took a whole year to find another!!

And hey, 27 isn't all that old!! ;~p Too young to be a granny, anyway!! Hehe.

Our micro worms arrived yesterday, the new babies love them, but the 6 week old ones (who are still very small) are quite picky, I will have to get some white worms or blood worms for them to try.

oh! Why so long to find the female? I thought that axies were quite readily available! don't you just love gold axies! They are selling some on trademe if you haven't already you should check them out, so cute!!

We caught daphnia for our little ones in the last batch but it was hard, we went to the cornwall park (heard of it?) and fished them outta the cow troughs, unfortunately there are other little creatures that eat daphnia and so we didn't have many left the next day Hehe. Our next door neighbour is gonna adopt the twins so thats awesome, I dunno if we could care for a whole batch again, that was tiring!

They have been hard to find here, but I am about to change that. :~)

I have my eyes on some golds too, I hope to have a pair of each colour!!

Were they leeches that you got with the daphnia? I am about to get another culture from trademe, as the last one I tried to start I ruined, because the water was too fresh.

I got a huge bag of BBS eggs arrived today, 550 gm so that should last a while!

I noticed our older babies are getting legs and wee feet at last too!! :~)

aw! so cute! legs already =) do they have back legs yet? I think they are so sweet when they only have front legs. wait is it the other way around?? its been a year since we have had little babies around.
It would be cool to have a pair of each colour and especially beautiful golds. What colours do you have now?
I think that the little things that munched the daphnia are waterboatman larvae. They get so huge and hungry, I really dislike them because of that but its not their fault... I guess, lol I should stop holding grudges...
The little twins are getting bigger by the day and Ollie (Olive) layed a few more stray eggs.
Onto a different topic, when Ollie layed her main lot of eggs we had to get rid of them, we washed them down the plug hole, how would you do it? Is there a quicker/less uncomfortable for babies way? Any ideas.

OMG, you did what?? Lol your council will be finding axolotls in their sewers!! They still can survive, and get into the waterways, where there is plenty of food lol... I would just leave them in the tank with the parents, the y eat them, and if any develop, they soon gobble them up too.

we left our two with a few this time, and they developed, and must have been a midnight snack for them!!

Just think of them as food, it is nature's way.

r u sure bout that? wow. well i personally think that would be pretty awesome lol but next time i'll try that. Yeah we found that the axies din't eat them(not hungry?) but thats ok i'll try ur way agen. sorry bout the bad spellin gotta rush. Dinner, mm.

Hehe my hubby and I were joking about it when I accidentally put some newborns in our first lot down the drain, I didn't realise they sort of lie there for the first day or so, and chuched some!! Would be pretty cool, aye.
