Mark - I remember you saying that the males of this species has a broken line down its back that you can see before the crests developes and that females have a solid line. Do you have any pictures that show this? Im trying to sex(by judging from the line) how many have a straight or broken line out of my group of T. marm's.

Hey Mark, I don't know anything at all about this species, but could you try the old trick that we all use for c.o's?

Make a semi-aquatic setup in which the land area stays wet on top so the skin can't get dry... thus encouraging aquatic-ness?

Hi Mark
Has he been kept cool during winter? I mean around 5°C...

Hi Francesco - no they haven't had a proper cool period which might explain their lack of interest in the water. Maybe next year eh?

Danny - a female for comparison. A solid dorsal strip.

yeah next winter keep them 2-3 months at 5°C like I did and when you bring them out they'll be much more friskier!

Mark - Thanks for that picture! From the looks of it, I only have one male in my group. Looks like extra feedings and TLC to make sure he can live long enough to reproduce!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
