Triturus Marmoratus Looking Sick

One of my 2 year old Marmoratus isn't doing well I think. His eyes are half closed, he looks like he got a "cold", and he doesn't react to food, except walking away from it slowly, as if being irritated by it's movements.

I also saw a slimy substance coming from his mouth a couple of days ago.

He looks a bit skinnier then before. What could be the problem? Anyone had this or something similar too?

I would suggest quarantine as this can be a symptom of many things.

I've quarantained it in a small container, with live moss, a bit of bark and a tissue with bloodworms.

Am I forgetting something? Are the prospects grim with these kinds of symptoms Ed?

This is how he looks right now, eyes half-closed, and a dry skin...enough moist places in the quarantaine box though.

One more to show the dryness of the skin:

What to do?

Thanks for showing interest Omicron!

He is now inside instead of in the barn, and he seems a little more active, but I'm not sure if he has eaten anything. Too bad there is nothing I can do just to be sure...just giving him the option to be in a moist or dry environment seems all I can do right now, and keeping him relatively cool (about 13 degrees in front of my window)

If I have the luck of seeing him recover, I'll let you know! If anyone has suggestions...I'm still desperate to hear some!

Pretty good. he ate some waxworms and is now showing some strange behaviour:

When he's asleep (or resting) and when I pick him up to check up on him, he is opening his mouth widely, his hind legs bend backwards against his tail, and he turns really stiff for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Could this be some kind of unken reflex? It looks really strange.

Most likely a mineral deficiency -
Do you supplement the food it eats with any commercially available vitamin dusts?

I try to vary his food as much as I can, and I do give him waxworms which I dust with calcium every now and then. As of yet I don't know which vitamins package would be suitable for newts here in Holland.

I though the mineral deficiency would express itself in a slowly developing curvature of the spine etc.?

I have him for about 2 months now. How fast does this develop?

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail. I also asked this as an actual question in a thread in case anyone wants to answer it there instead of here
