Hi,

Here are some pictures of my Triturus arntzeni (formerly Triturus karelinii arntzeni). I chose a full aquatic setup in combination with some red cherry shrimps. The salamanders are juveniles, Captive Bred.

I've been searching the forum and I can't find any photo's of adults. Are there other keepers of this species that want to post some pictures, please?

Cheers Steven

Steven,

The day before yesterday i put my male in the water after a terrestrial period in summer.
His coloration is not like it will be in a couple of weeks, but still it is a adult ....

He will get bigger, fatter, brighter and with a crest... :)
For now, this pic is the best i can do!

What kind of camera are you using; and on what setting? Great pics!!!

This must be a DSLR in Manual mode. Low compensation on light and voila! A tripod is recomended.
I make like this and the pics look like this.

Nice set up and good pictures. I like the sillouette pictures of newts and salamanders.

Hey I'm just using a little handcamera. A Sonny coolpix 7M pixel. I use the Soft Snap with Macro.

Here are some new pics of the male:

What a beautiful coloration. I truly love the little crest on the males, but also know it wont be long before it is huge! Thanks for sharing, this is the first time I have seen pics of this species.

Any differences from this form and the nominate karelinii?

I see a black spotted throat, but a lack of any spotting on the belly.

A lack of black spot on the belly, a grey-silver background color on the body, Green-bleu spots on the back and the crest is more waved instead of toothed. I don't exactly know about the nominate T. karelinii but the T. arntzeni also has a long upper jaw wich you can see in the following picture:

(I hope you understand what I mean, my english need some improvement)

Kind regards,

These are very nice pics and very nice looking salamanders! I must say they look very differend than mine wich I think is very interesting! How sure are you that this is arntzeni, Greatwtehunter?

I am 100% sure the juveniles are arntzeni and about 95% sure of the adults. I know the locality of where the group that produced my adults came from.

Especially the juvenile looks very differend than our juveniles. We saw some other foto's too from T. arntzeni that look totally differend than ours. At this moment we are trying to find an explantion to it. Our arntzeni would be from bulgaria too, allthough their looks call for questions.

Hmm...

the karelinii in the US(suspected to be imported from Ukraine) I've seen them show many different colorations including silvery and blue/grey on the dorsal. They indeed have a wavy crest rather than a jagged one(more in line with marmoratus than cristatus or dobros). And that upper jaw thing(not sure what to call it) is present in many newts.

It'll be neat to see these arntzeni crest up when they are older. But I am curious of their origins. Thanks!

Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
