I have three fully aquatic Eastern Newts that live together in an 20 Gallon tank.
Substrate is Gravel with live plants.
Current tank temperature is 59.5F
Water Parameters: Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 20, pH 6.6
Diet: Live Daphnia, Blackworms, White worms, and guppy fry. Frozen Bloodworms and brine shrimp.

The newts are owned by my employer. I went on vacation last week and the coworker in charge of the animal care did not preform any water changes and I do not know if they were fed properly or when this problem first started. When I returned to work yesterday I noticed that one of our adult eastern newts had a major problem with one of their eyes. The eye is bulging, cloudy white, and has blood in it. This has never happened before. I immediately put them in a bare bottom hospital tank with an Indian Almond leaf, some guppy weed and some black worms. They are active but not interested in food at this time. I did do a salt bath yesterday with no change in condition.

This previous thread seems most similar to my situation, however it appears that triple sulfa has been discontinued by API.

I am going to try starting to treat with Furan-2 today and I am crossing my fingers for some improvement.
Does anyone have any suggestions? With them not eating, I am very worried about the prognosis at the moment.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
