Hey, im moving house soon and its a really long drive i was wondering what is the safest way to take my axolotl

Thanks

I put my two in seperate tupperware containers that were air tight, and stuck, them in a cooler. I had to drive 6 hours and they were just fine. I put mine in the back seat as another member suggested, the heater only came on in the front, so I'd position yours as far away from the heaters as possible, and put them in a cooler if possible but they're pretty good travelers.

are they ok in a air tight container? thats what we was thinking of doing but wasnt sure if we could restrict the air

yea mine did fine. How long is your trip? Fish usually get shipped in sealed plastic bags for a few days and do just fine, so I'd assume an axolotl would be ok being in a sealed container for a while.

Its from christchurch in the south island to the north island of new zealand quite a while and will be staying somewhere overnight then driving again and does there have to be ice in the chiller

Another member advised me not to use an ice pack/ice in the cooler because the ice would cause too drastic of a temp change. I ended up having a ton of extra room in my cooler, so I stuck an ice pack wrapped in a ton of towels on the opposite side to keep the cooler to keep it cool inside, but I doubt it did much for the actual temperature of the water. I'd skip the ice if I were you. If you're keeping them overnight maybe bring some extra dechlorinated water in the cooler with them, and do a water change after the 2nd day? That would aerate the water, and get rid of the ammonia they'd be sitting in. Just make sure its the same temp.
