Question: To get another lotl or not to?

What side is the filter on? Is it possible that he got sucked into the filter? I dont even put axolotls under 3" in a tank, way easier to keep track in a tub. Just for reference if you ever get another small one.
I think everyone has belittled you enough, I means mistakes happen and trust me ive seen much much worst happen! Like i dont know how many babies I almost lost because they jumped out during a water change from tubs.. And ive even siphoned echo into the hose by accident! And droped toothless on the floor while trying to get him back in the tank after being in a tub, I still dont know how he managed to jump out of the tank. Those though dont compare to the unknown, i would drive myself crazy not knowing what actually happened.

The best thing to do with small juvies is keep them in tubs though, it is all I will say about thos topic. It just makes sure you know exactly where it is at all times, because a lotl that size, I guarantee you could still be in that tank hiding and you would not find it. Ive even lost 3" axolotls in a tank temporarily. Yes many things could have happened and we may never find out. But I can also assume confidently that you have learned from your mistakes and you truly are pulling hairs out over this. Mistakes happen. Its sad that they happen,
If you could find one more of your bigger ones size, preferably over 5-6" then I would say go for it when you feel you are ready. Dont rush into it. If you can only find juvies, keep it in a tub till it grows. Trust me it doesnt take long. 4months from hatching and my juvies were in a tank with my older ones. They are catching up quick.
It sucks with daily water changes but its worth it.

Its a sponge filter ... so he couldn't have gotten sucked in, I only got the HOB yesterday.

Thanks :) this was only my second time trying to raise axolotls and when I got Natsu and mudkip noone told me at that size they should not in in a tank.
