I really need some help getting my T. Yangi to eat anything besides nightcrawlers. Today I put some crickets in a glass dish. Tonight when I got home from work one of the newts was sitting happily in the glass dish and all 4 crickets were running around. Can these guys even catch live crickets? Also I have tried frozen blood worms and it just sits there and goes bad and they pay no attention to it. Should I just keep offering it and be more patient? They are still in their terrestrial enclosure. I want to find a variety to offer them. They love the nightcrawlers but I can't keep the worms alive for more than two weeks and I'm frustrated. Thank you.

Have you tried keeping the nightcrawlers in the fridge? If they are the large Canadian nightcrawlers that you buy at bait shops, they can last for more than a month that way. Worms can definitely be kept alive longer and are WAY less expensive than crickets.
I wouldn't be too worried about variety especially if you've got them eating nightcrawlers as a staple.

I have kept them in the fridge on dirt, buss bedding, and coco fiber and nothing seems to work. I'm going to keep trying, I just seem to be missing something basic and I'm not sure what it is. Is it possible that the newts would eat dead crickets? They don't seem to be interested in the live ones running around. Thank you.
