Someone has probably done this before... but I just got a new 29 from the petco dollar per gallon and i've always wanted to try this! So i went for it! All i used was GE Silicone I, slate tile from home depot, and a 5# bag of sand from petco!

Ooh! I did something like that! my axies dug the sand up and scattered it everywhere lol.

Can you put some more silicone in to cover the sharp edges? Axies have very delicate marshmallow skin and they might end up cutting themselves while they crash around the tank. One of mine propels herself from the side and dive bombs into the sand on a very regular basis, has always done it strange thing!
 
Everything is siliconed down so it's almost completely flush. Nothing is really sticking up, but i'm gonna double check! Thanks guys :)
