Great video. I would bite also if someone was sticking their huge finger in my face... LOL

LOL great video! I wonder if you let them have it if they would have had a go at eatin your hand?

I just watched it again. In response to the last post, I think that they would have. They really seemed to have wanted to take in the whole finger!

If I let them they will eat my finger till they know it's not right..They spit it out very fast, and you get your finger back unharmed, but covered with a dirty substance...I don't let them eat my finger any more, it nicer to see them eat real food

I'm assuming for real food they must get very big fat juicy nightcrawlers

Yes, and grasshoppers, crickets, waxworms, chicken filet, and baby mice. They like variety

Quite a varied diet - but they do not look obese! How often and how much do you feed them at one time?

Well, they don't get waxworms and baby mice every week, more once a month or so.

I normally feed them once a week:

5 crickets each
or 2 grasshoppers each
or one piece of chicken filet each (pinky size)
and if I have nightcrawlers they get them together with the other meals.

Sometimes I give them extra food( crickets+ waxworms or baby mice) and then they look very obese, if that happens I wait 2 weeks before the next meal, in the wild they sometimes also have to wait days/weeks to finally find some good food.

If I wait longer than a week with feeding them they will become more active searching for food, and they won't become so lazy and obese.

Thanks Christian. I feed my tigers similarly regarding food volume/week, but was curious as to the frequency you offered pinkies, chicken and waxworms.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
