Hello,
I have a juvie tiger salamander that I bought about 1 month ago. He was eating great every time I put something in front of him he could get it right away and eat. I did make him a new viv and put moss and dirt in it. He now watches his food and acts like he wants to catch it but he doesn't I fed him with and without tongs, but he now has trouble eating formt he tongs, he watches and lunges at the food, but never gets it. I don;t understand why this happened. It has been about 5 days since he ate and he is hungry, but I spent 45 minutes yesterday trying to feed him,a dn then left him alone to hunt by himsef but he didn't get anything. He isn't moveing slow or anything. I also was wondering, I brought moss in from outside and have noticed a few spiders in the tank, and crawling on him, is this an issue, should I take out all the moss?
Thanks!

They don't like things crawling on them. I suspect that if the tiger isn't skinny then this is it being picky. Try something different - may I suggest waxworms. I've never had a healthy tiger refuse a waxworm, so it would be worth ruling out. In the US you can usually get waxworms at petco, and sometimes at petsmart.

I agree with John, my adult male Mavortitum, always accepts (quite greedily) waxworms, but they are fatty, and I limit them. However, to reinforce what John has said, A waxworm can really be a good item to get a stubborn feeder to eat!

Good luck, take pics, and keep us informed!

Also, I had spiders once from outside moss, and I ditched the set-up. I have been much happier with the disposition of my captive since then.I suggest you do the same, at least to avoid stressing the Tigrinum.

You can also find waxworms where they sell fish bait. Alot people use them for fishing.
