Hi is the care for a tiger salamander easy is so can you gets them at Reptile expos?:D

Compared to some of the other species, Tiger salamanders will eagerly eat a variety of foods which makes them easier in that sense. It does take effort though, to keep them alive and happy (as with any other animal).

I went to a Reptile expo last week and found quite a few different vendors with Tigers for sale. Some were wild caught while others were captive bred.

One thing to keep in mind while shopping around for one is where the seller is getting them from. If they are wild caught it's not advisable to purchase, so make sure they breed them or buy them from a breeder.

Will this be your first?

Have fun and good luck with your sally! :famous:

I doubt that you found cb tigers at an expo. There are very few breedings of tigers and only a couple in the U.S. They probably lied to you or they were "farm bred".

I think it would be best if you could collect a tiger yourself, as this way you dont support the pet-trade but tigers can be hard tofind and you may have to buy one.

They are one of the easiest terrestrial species and quite enjoyable to keep.

I agree, they can be very difficult to find considering they spend 90% of their life in under ground burrows, coming out only briefly to breed. If you consider trying to take one out of the wild, it would be smart to check with the state you live in to see if its legal first. Wouldn't want to be caught with one in CA or PA!

It is possible to find Tiger salamander breeders, and reptile expos are a good place to start looking, so I think you are headed in the right direction.

For example, a vendor (from the last Repticon expo on May 22) referred me to a local breeder in Orlando, FL that has several species of salamanders on hand, which just goes to show that there are other breeders out there that have managed to stay off the radar and unexposed! There is hope.

Tiger salamanders that are offered for sale at trade shows are typically wild caught, farm bred or captive hatched from eggs collected in the wild..........there are only rare instances world-wide where tigers have been truly captive bred. Tigers in captivity are just extraordinarily difficult to breed......buyer beware.
