Hey everyone, my tiger salamander is slowing down and isnt eating. He also is just hiding under his bark part way instead of going into his little burrow. I am worried. I got him this fall and the temps were about 69-72 degrees, and no it is 62-65 degrees. Do you think he is trying to hibernate? What do you think?

He might be, if he's WC that is. Is he still eating the same?

My experience is rather limited still but I have temps around 60 degrees and dropping and mine are just as active as the day I got them. I really believe that I have this years morphs so my tigers may not be use to hibernating and it might take much more of a drop for nature to take its course. If your tiger is older and has seen a winter or two it might be on automatic pilot and getting ready to hibernate (as IanF stated) with the drop of temp. I would not worry and just offer it food from time to time, his eating should slow down because of the temp. Hopefully other members with tigers can chime in.

If the actions of the tiger are all that you describe, I would not be overly worried. My tigers display different behaviors at different times. Sometimes I will find them burrowed - at other times they prefer to be in the open. With my oldest tiger, if he has been fed recently - he displays no interest in food....and he has 'slowed down' considerably. It sometimes takes several days after feeding for him to decide he is again hungry. I have also observed over many years that when a rain storm is approaching, my tigers like to come out of their burrows and roam. Are the temperatures you describe, the temps you are keeping him at indoors - or the outside temps?
