Hey guys!

Just a general wondering really; I'm aware that tiger sals tend to get blackish spots on their skin when they are due to shed, but does anyone have any photos of what this actually looks like?

My little sal is bright yellow in parts so I figure it'd probably be easy to tell there, but the rest of him is quite mottled so I've no idea what to actually look for!

Also, how often is 'normal' for them to shed?

Thanks! :D

I posted a thread recently about this recently. I'm pretty sure the ones in my pic are what you're referring to.

I take issue with your statement, "I'm aware that tiger sals tend to get blackish spots on their skin when they are due to shed". Out of curiosity, where did you get this information? In my experience, this does not happen and is not normal...when it does happen it is often associated with an infectious process.

Regarding frequency, in my experience younger animals shed more frequently as do animals who have a skin pathology. You may never see your animal shed.... as often the animal eats its shed. If you do see it, a normal shed appears as a piece of thin plastic film (think Saran wrap) in the shape of the whole animal. There are several discussions on this forum re tiger shedding - you may want to search the forum for these discussions.

It's not from experience; it's what I'd heard/read elsewhere, on here probably. I've never noticed anything like it on my tiger which is why I asked.
Thank you
