Hello from Wyoming, home of the tiger salamander and not much else, caudata-wise. I don't currently have any newts or salamanders, but I find them fascinating and hope to add some to my paludarium someday.

When I'm not pondering amphibians, I can usually be found teaching little kids to make music, running up and down mountains, building primitive bows and hunting with them, making Walstad-style biotope aquariums, and hanging out with my wife and daughter. Usually not all at the same time.

Welcome to the forum, Thomas. Would you believe that there is also a WhistlingBadger on a fish forum? It’s just crazy. I hope people don’t get the two of you confused.

Yep, it's me. 😁 I saw your username and laughed. Still trying to figure out why my Firebelly toads keep vanishing, too. Any insights on that? I'm down to one again; I've lost maybe a half dozen of them over the past year, and have yet to find a body. Weird. They quit eating, then simply disappear...

My guess is that they are either escaping, or dying inside the enclosure, and something (snails, isopods, etc) is consuming them quickly. It does sound like a bit of a mystery.

That makes as much sense as anything else, but I sure don't know how they're getting out, or what's eating them so fast. Seems like I should at least find part of a skeleton once in a while. I'm stumped. If I could figure out what's happening I could fix it, but these utter disappearances are maddening.
