So I'm thinking about getting a friend for my axolotl, but firstly I wanted to know the minimum size tank to house a pair of axolotls :)

Well there are several ways you can look at it.

1 square foot worth of tank per axolotl
1 square foot worth of tank per axolotl plus an extra foot to account for all the decorations
10 gallons per axolotl
20 gallons for your first axolotl then 10 for each additional
as many as will fit so long as you do a huge amount of daily water changes and test the water pretty much daily
1 inch worth of axolotl per gallon (10 inch axolotl = 10 gallon tank. two 5 inch axolotl's = 10 gallon tank.

Everyone has a slightly different opinion on here but generally I go with the square foot one.

My philosophy is the correct tank size is the one that will still be plenty big when you add in another axolotl that you haven't considered yet ;)

The right number of axolotls is always one more than you currently have.

Yeah I definitely don't have a big enough tank, its 60×30×35 so if I do get another it will be to crowded and the waste build up would be fairly high. Will just have to wait til I upgrade my tank :) thanks for the help

I have a 20 gallon long and that's fine for 2 axies, but no more, according to numerous people on this forum. :D
