i have herd of this sal called a alpine or alpino sal (i cant remember),anyway i just wanted to know if they were real.are they?.if sowhat is there habitat?and can i find them in NE england? and maby some pics please.

there is an alpine newt, mesotriton alpestris, and an alpine fire salamander, salamandra atra. i'm not sure which species you thinking of.

alpine newt

alpine fire salamander

i wouldn't recommend salamandra atra for a beginner, it would be hard to find them anyway, alpine newts are much easier for a beginner, and they are more readily avaliable.

Do you mean in the wild or from Captive Breeders or Pet Shops?

You can not find Alpine newts/salamanders in the U.K Josh. England has only three native species

i am waitin' for an awnser please

Lissotriton helveticus, Lissotriton vulgaris and Triturus cristatus

aka: smooth newts, giant crested newts and palmate newts

here is a link:

i have heard talk of some colonies of alpines having been established in the wild after escaping from garden ponds and setting up shop in the uk-perhaps someone who knows more about this 'rumor' will speak up and fill us all in on it.....

This species has been introduced into Surrey, Berkshire, Shropshire, and Tyne and Wear. i think there are other colonies too. there are also a few populations of triturus carnifex here and there, there are certainly some in the Birmingham area and Surrey.
