I am very happy today, now finally all three of my N. viridescens are aquatic and feeding, one of them viciously. When I got them, one of them wouldn't go in the water or eat, and one of them was so small and feeble he wouldn't eat either. (some of the no feeding was probably from the shipping stress and new environment too)
now the small guy is eating and active, and today I found the terrestrial one in the water and I hand fed him a worm and he finally ate it. The other one was big from the beginning and is such a voracious feeder, if I come up beside the tank it comes up to the glass, and if I break the surface of the water it immediately swims up and starts chomping away whether or not there is food!
After my recent bad experience with a pet store Cynops I was worried that this would end the same way. But my newts have prevailed! Maybe this winter I can even try to breed them if it turns out I have a pair. (not that there's a great demand for N. v.v. haha)
Anyway, thanks so much for all your help, hopefully someday I can help someone else in the same way.
